Hi Folks,

Just took delivery of 3 Ready to Lay Sex Linked birds yesterday, and Mom's looking for her first egg. Any idea when they would start laying? I do think a day or two to recover from the transport stress is allowed, but hoping for eggs to start soon. Should I take the axe out and lean it against the coop for motivation? LOLJohn

You should allow more than a day or two to recover. Some hens need a month, sometimes more. Point of lay (POL) pullets aren't necessarily going to lay within the next couple of days, week or month anyway. They'll lay when they're mature enough to do so :)
As far as leaning an axe against the coop for motivation...
They'll probably start scratching around it, knock it over, scare themselves silly and delay their laying even more :gig
Good luck, they'll be giving you fresh breakfast before you know it.

Thanks for the advice,

What about an empty Mary Brown's Chicken box rather than the axe?

was encouraged last night that they figured out how to get up the ramp and into the coop without Dad helping, this morning, with a little help, one actually went down it on her own.

Laugh a minute with these girls, having a blast and don't think, even if they don't lay, couldn't bring myself to be more drastic.

John
