Ready to lay?

Our girls are about 5 months old now and we're wondering if they look like theyret ready to lay yet? Any ideas?

They look like mine. We got our first egg yesterday at 21 weeks old. And a second and third egg today. Eggs are in your future!

Yay! That gives me some hope! We did just add 5 new chickens to our flock so I'm thinking that has the older girls all out of sorts. Haha!

That's the hope! Our new girls are only 3 months old and I've read that Ameraucanas can take longer to start laying so maybe just in time for fall!

Average onset of lay for most breeds is 18-28 weeks.

We have eggs! Well, one egg. Haha! But at least it's a start! This is from our red girl, Captain. It took her about an hour of scratching around in the nesting box but she finally did it!

Congrats on the first egg! Mine are the same age as yours, and only one is laying. She started two weeks ago. The others have shown signs but no eggs yet!
