how many fingers should fit in the hens pelvic bones so that their ready to lay

Three to four fingers is a good layer, but I don't know if it's the same for beginner layers,but it probably is. How old are your chickens?

More to the point how old are your fingers My mothers poor old arthritic fingers are twice as wide as mine
