Hello All,
I'm Brian from Tucker GA. I have a wonderful wife and a 12 yo daughter. We've decided to start our own coop. I picked up a coop plan and will start building it this weekend. Look forward to all your advice.
Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian!

Hope you have fun building your coop! My DH and I had a great time "designing" ours. We looked at many plans and designs onlline, and got a lot of ideas and good tips. We haven't had chickens long, but my advice is build bigger than you think you can use. We have 12x16 total size dived into 2 sections; 7x12 of it Coop and 8 x 12 of it storage ( orinally for yard tools, etc.) It's been up about 3 weeks or so and I'm not sure anything but chicken stuff will make it in there. It's quickly become the brooder pen and chicken feed area. We plan to free range our chickens, but want to wait till they are a little bigger (ok, ok, I'm really trying to work up the nerve....

) For now they have about a 10x16 pen attached to the coop and I'm glad we didn't make it any smaller since they've been in it a bit longer than I had planned. Aldo, My DH is talking about breeding our Brahmas and I think we will need to keep the lady's seperate from the other Roo's to ensure a clutch of just brahma biddy's.

Oh yeah, definately think about ventilation, we are up here in North GA and the heat is something I was worried about. We are in a wooded area and our coop is in a shaded area so it doesn't take a beating from the sun. We have windows on every side of the coop and one in the middle for cross ventilation. I'm sure both of those things help.

Good Luck!
