Really confused on why my chicks are digging..

My chicks seem to like this stop and peck at it and dig in the shavings to get to the bottom.. any idea why they do this ??

Chickens LOVE to dig, kills bordem.

Scratching is completely normal chicken behavior.
It’s how they look through litter and leaves to find food when they’re foraging.
They will also pick up tiny rocks (grit) and swallow them to help digest their food.
Since chickens don’t have teeth they swallow the little rocks to help grind their food in their crop.

They also dig to take a dust/dirt bath.
