Really gross looking bug! *Warning Its Disgusting*

the bright green wings is when it is fresh out of it's exoskeleton. I used to catch these as a child. Completely harmless. You can rub their bellies and it will make it sing.

We had them when I grew up in Las Vegas. They spend most of their lives underground, then the crawl out, attach their feet to something like a stucco wall, and they emerge as you saw them. The sides of our walls would have a dozen or more of their tan exoskeletons attached. Their winged form is for mating. Cool that you saw it so fresh-- those green wings are really cool! Their was a huge hatch of them the year I move to Vegas-- it was deafening. We don't have them here in the PNW.

Maybe it wasn't his "belly" that you were rubbing. Just a thought.

Wow haven't seen one in years, mainly because of where I live. Growing up, we used to collect them and play with them. The ones we used to play with were about 2-3inches in length. Big big bug but totally harmless to people. We knew it was summer when they would "buzz" and it was LOUD!!!

didn't know that the green wing was when the bug came out of the cocoon. The ones I saw all had brown wings. No it never occurred me that they could be food. blach!!
