Well I had 5 aylesbury duck eggs, 4 have hatched and are doing great.
The last egg i though had quit, due to the ducklings kicking it about, knocking it against the side of the bator, smothering it in weetabix (temporary until i got duck food) and one even pooped on it... then about 48-ish hours go, when I moved a couple of the ducks to the brooder, I picked up the egg to feel for movement, and I see a pip.... on the pointy end..
It had made a small slit in the membrane so I put it back in and waited until about 36 hours ago when it had managed to almost get its beak through... however I noticed a lot of gooey-ness where the hole was, that was starting to stick to the beak, so to stop it suffocating I peeled the membrane back only slightly. i would have left it if it wasn't for the gooey-ness.
It now has it's beak through, but is no longer peeping, though it is breathing.. I shone a torch in earlier, and I can see a fairly large vein... The duckling itself looks literally 'glued' to itself... like it's at a really weird angle, and where its head is resting the stickiness is glueing it in place... so what should i do... its making no progress, but if there are veins I cant touch it... What about if i just chip the shell off and leave the membrane? That would give it more movement... i'm at a loss.
The humidity has been at 75%-80% though I had a couple of spikes of about 90-95 for about 15 mins.. the temp is at 98.5-99 and has stayed steady.. any advice would be most welcome. Sorry for the lengthy description... I at least want to give it a chance to live. Thanks
