Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this post. I sadly need to ask for help on a decision I need to make. About 9 years ago I rescued 3 ducks - one passed away last year and I found out this week my Fawn duck has pretty bad cancer throughout her belly. We have her on Meloxicam and Tramadol to keep her comfortable. The Veterinarian believes her time to be let go is sooner than later. When she passes, I'll have only one duck left 😢 I can't possibly keep her alone, she's been with her flock her entire life. She is older as well, pushing into the double digits. Her health is pretty good, she requires biannual hormone injections to stop producing eggs and has moderate arthritis.
Here is my dilemma...
When it's time euthinze my Fawn with cancer what do I do with my solo duck? What would you do in my situation?
Thanks everyone!

If you want to keep ducks, get her a senior friend.

I'm so sorry about your duck...it sounds like you have taken great care of them and given them a wonderful life so far.
Getting another female would be what I would do as well or possibly 2 so you aren't left with a solo duck down the road.
Do you have any rescue groups nearby where you can adopt a duck? They may have some other older ducks that are in need of a good home.
If you do find yourself with just one duck I would recommend giving your girl a mirror for company, our duck really liked it when she was solo for a bit.

Just something to think about concerning what will soon be your last, lone elder duck. If you do get her an aging companion, you are going to continue to face this same dilemma again down the road, when her time comes. You will be left wondering what to do with yet another lonely, aging, perhaps unhealthy duck. Perhaps your lonely girl (and you) would be better served by placing her in a rescue situation to live out her remaining days in the company of caring keepers and younger ducks? Is that a possibility? I don't know, I'm just throwing that out there as an option.

Edit: typo

Great idea! If she’s near me, in New England, I’ll take her.
