Really puzzled

]My husband came home tonight to find one of our chickens dead. I can not think of why. She was about 1 yr old. I feed them 'show bird' feed. She had stared to lay about 3 / 4 weeks ago. This week she had stopped for the past 4 days. I just thought it was because of winter and was to cold for her as we have had some frost (the girls are locked away every night are are not outside) the only symptoms I can think of is she was the last out in the morning by 1 min. Her Combe was more red then normal. And she had some white poo on the bottom feathers. When I left this morning she was eating and drinking. I was thinking egg bound? She was in the nesting boxes a bit the past 3 days but no egg. Any ideas?

You could do an autopsy. that may give you a bit of an indication. sometimes chickens just die. Red comb may be b/c of her continuing sexual maturity, or it may be an indication of the issue that killed her.
