I posted this earlier, but I'm lost on here. !!!!!!! One kind soul (Fred) answered me wherever that post was!
My question was... Are 4 hens enough for ONE rooster? I would be be getting them ALL as chicks, probably same age, same place, same time. I would LOVE a Barred Rock rooster...add 2 hens (same) and maybe 2 Silver Laced Wyandotte hens. I was trying to keep my numbers low and realistic for cleanliness and easier keeping... if there IS such a thing. haha.
Heck, I'd have ALL ROOSTERS if I thought it would work. All 3 of my Nigerian Dwarf goats are bucks!!
They will have a small garden barn for a coop, enclosed within about a 12 x 20 ft. chain-link run. They will NOT be running loose on the property- too many predators. These will be my first chickens, in case you can't tell! haha.
The chicks I'm looking at are due to hatch Sept. 2. Would I be better off to get a slightly older rooster? Heelp!
