Really want another roo, but I'm scared

I think you'd be happier waiting, to be honest. The one day, when it's right, someone will offer you the roo you've been wanting...

Maybe when Thor is much older and less aggressive...

It is not only size that confers dominance. It is more the, "size of the fight in the bird than the size of the bird in the fight." In fact, if Thor was submissive in the past, he will probably be submissive to a new rooster. My first flock, I had 17 cockerels. The one that emerged dominant was the second smallest.

Well I just placed my order without adding a cockerel. I'm thinking you're right Lynne, there may be another rooster in my future but it'll happen when it's s'pose to.

I believe I've seen in some other posts that you do free range your birds-if so, I would ABSOLUTELY add another rooster. If you have half the hawks we have here in Deep East Texas, seems to me with 25 hens you need 2 sets of eyes on the sky. Just my opinion though!

Yes they free range all day, every day. Thor is a very good roo in that respect. At some point I know I'll need to add another roo. Maybe when Thor starts slowing down a bit. Betcha I could find another one locally.

I have 2 super sweet big boys here that would love to come live with you. It would be a drive, but at least you could pick one out and would know you were getting a good natured roo.

Thanks for the offer, but we won't be ready for the new ones until the end of April. We have to build them a seperate place in the coop.

Yep, DH and I discussed it again last night. We'll probably get a second rooster once we are all set up with the new flock. Thor can just build a bridge and get over it.

My guys are such good guys. We've had a few pissy roos and they were rehomed or put in the freezer. There's too many sweet roos around to put up with one you don't like. I know you'll find your perfect guy. The offer is still open whenever you are ready
