While I was adding to their deep bedding and doing general chicken tending Teriyaki and Popcorn both squatted for the first time. I actually had a lineup of chickens wanting me to play rooster for them.

Only Dumpling remains to show that sign of maturity.

Cordon was first to lay, followed a week or 10 days later by Chipotle.

I was a dinosaur nut before dinosaurs were cool -- and long before anyone suspected the dinosaur-bird connection.

I need a Blue Australorp and that sign.

I'm so pleased with my Blue Australorps that I am going to get a batch as straight run and see if I get lucky with a possible flock rooster.

I give chickens food names as a reminder that, though I love them and enjoy their personalities and antics, they are, ultimately, livestock rather than pets and they have a purpose to fulfill.

They're such characters too. They follow me all around the fence line as I walk back and forth -- even in the cold rain today.
