Recent recovery from Coccidiosis and egg laying....

SafeGuard is very safe to dose, so I would give the 1.4. ml. The larger dose, given 5 days in a row, instead of once and repeated in 10 days, will get all chicken worms, including the capillaria and gapes.

Yes, it does but still going to worm her. Stuff should arrive today. But I have a question....I have been reading many of the wormer threads, and in one you posted you dose .23cc/lb. This hen is 5.8 pounds so that would mean 1.38cc for her. That is a huge difference from the 1/2 ml or cc suggested above. I guess I am confused as to which??? It is Safeguard that is coming.
The amount I use is 50 mg/kg (0.23 ml per pound) which is based on a combination of several things... info from various studies, veterinary text books and recommendations from a few vets. The 1/2 cc dose works out to about 19 mg/kg for a 5.8 pound hen. Now when you get your bottle you're really gonna think 1.38 cc is a lot, 'cause the instructions on it are for goats, but what most people don't realize is that goats cows and horses only get 5-10mg/kg, If you're interested, I can put together a bunch of the info from the studies and books.

Thanks to both of you! Having only done this for a year, I still have a large learning curve to work through! I am always amazed at the amount and level of expertise on this site. It is definitely appreciated!
Okay, so, I'll dose her 1.4 cc for 5 days, then repeat in 10. I am assuming I complete another 5 days during round 2, not just a one shot deal then? My apologies for asking specifics, but I am a medical person by training and always treat meds with respect and specificity. I am also wondering if I should just bite the bullet and treat all 5 hens, even though this one is the only one showing issues at the moment? Hmm...would make sense. Kathy, if you are willing to share some info., I'll take you up on your offer of what you have seen in books and studies. Love that stuff! And, I record it in a "Chicken Book" where I keep all of this important stuff! Thanks tons!

Actually just the 5 days in a row will do, but if you want to repeat it one time 10 days afterward, that would be all that is necessary.

Just a followup and a question....Since worming the ill chicken, she is doing even better. Looks super healthy. But....she never began laying again. Nothing in over 3 weeks, not that I can use the eggs at the moment. Ever have a chicken that just stops laying and doesn't start back up?? I check her regularly and there is no swelling in her abdomen indicating internal laying?? She runs normally, even flies, her tail is upright, and her backend doesn't look any larger than the other 4. Eats well, bright red comb and wattles. Didn't know if anyone knew of a reason??
