I seemed to go against all the advice I have read and it still worked! Today I bought two white leghorns to stick under Penelope and I had to rush home to hurry and make the switch before my husband arrived. (It was my second trip to the feed store and my second chick purchase.. I am sure some of you know this disease.) Any rate, I threw the dog kennel hurriedly in the chicken coop, moved Penelope in the middle of the day and introduced the chicks to her when she was still "bacaw-ing" loudly. But she took to them right away. Oh she was so happy to get those babies.
I am still keeping 6 chicks in the house to raise by hand. DH said he wanted friendly chickens so he put his blessing on another round of poultry in the house.
So now the question is, how long do I keep her and her babies confined to the dog kennel?
