Even though i never have seen what a snake does to an egg i believe this is snake sign. I have caught 2 ratsnakes in my nest boxes last month or so. Today i found one egg in one nest box and this in another. Its flattened and softened. I know snakes reguritate food items when caught in the act and disturbed. I thought they digested the shell but they may not. Fat chance my wife will collect eggs while im at work!

I've never seen any remnants when an egg is eaten by a snake. Rodents will chew a hole and eat the insides, so if the egg was softer that might be what you're seeing, or the egg broke and the chickens ate the insides and left the soft shell.

That's broken thin shelled egg.
I don't think snakes regurgitate egg shells.

has anyone found an effective way to ward off Snakes from getting in the nesting area? We have carted off 3 red rat snakes in a weeks time.
