hi there, i have a dilemma. more of a situation that i just cant make up my mind on and would like the input of others that are experienced with chickies.
here's the problem: i work at our local farm and fleet store and we get about 1500 chicks a week (sometimes double that) and we usually have quite a variety to chose from. i would really like a variety (the boyfriend says i can get 5 total). i already have a 20 week old blue cochin that im gonna give a home to. i would just really like some recommendations.
i am looking for calm girls, but some decent layers.
any ideas?
thanks

Two votes here for buff Orpingtons!

I see you live in MN, BO's are larger dual purpose birds that are good winter layers of brown eggs and are extremely friendly, quiet, calm and easy to care for. Do lots of research before you decide what is best for you and your situation. Good luck to you in your new adventure!

thanks!! im so excited. ive been asking a lot of the guys in the farm department and they said the dual purpose breeds are the best for winter here, seeing how it got to 30 below with windchill this past winter.
right now im planning on the cochin i already have, a wyandotte, and the other 3 available spots to fill are open
