Recommend a dog/puppy shampoo to me

Or tie them to a tree in the front yard for a scrubdown, when said dog gets hit by a skunk at 8pm and DH won't help

I agree. My GSDs are 1.5 years old and have only had 3 "real baths" with shampoo in their lives. They do get rinsed off with plain water if they get muddy. They also get brushed frequently. They do not smell and are very shiny (which I attribute to feeding them quality food). They are inside dogs.

Well as I said, Kane's biggest problem is being slobbered on by big brother and whatever Jax has had in his mouth gets transferred to Kane's coat.
Kane's coat is in transition from puppy to adult and it just looks funky to me. Daily brushings and Jax looks handsome. Daily brushings make Kane look good for about five minutes.
On a brighter note, his ears are coming up.

I like buddy wash and buddy rinse that I get from the local feedstore. Otherwise I use horse products. Rio vista brand being my favorite for pretty much every animal. I don't think there's that much difference between all the shampoos formulated for different animals. People argue about ph balance and dry skin but tests were actually done to show the ph of each individual animal varied so much as to include every shampoo out there these days. That was a series of studies a few years ago that were heavily argued over on a small pet forum that was debating if you can only use rabbit shampoo on small pets. Only things like dish soap and plain soaps should fail to be ph balanced to within the acceptable range. Dry skin or not is a result of the quality of the shampoo, the genetics or diet problems of the individual, or frequency of baths. I always use a coat conditioner whether it's a regular conditioner or leave on afterward.

You will probably all laugh, but we use DAWN dish detergent. The lemon version is the preferred and for some reason it helps with the fleas and ticks. All of my cats and the dog get bathed with it. It is also a bunch cheaper that the specialty shampoos and smells good too. A friend who does dog rescue suggested it. Many of the dogs she gets have fleas, ticks, matts or what have you, so she swears by the dawn.
