you think that is too much?

$75 better? i was thinking $50 b/c i'll be paying as long as the ordinance stands but i want it to stand out for 'keep sake."

either way, i'll bet i'm the first to do this. in boston everyone gave the mailman/woman a Christmas gift and many give them B-Day gifts. on the "mailman's" B-Day, the "mailman" goes home with more than he/she left with. pretty sure this happens throughout boston, but maybe it was just our town. i'm positive they got plenty of gift cards and that isn't illegal. i'll give them a gift card from a party shop or cookie shop. No harm. esp to the chickens

it is an expensive permit. but one we'd pay

Giving the mail person a gift and bribing/ trying to pull friend strings with the powers to be are two different things. I think if you aren't aloud chickens, going with some sort of restrictive laws are a good compromise. I don't know where you live, but in my case I live in the suburbs. Now, there are actually no chicken laws on my books, but there is a noise ordinance. So because of that, and out of respect for my neighbors I will keep no roosters. There is no way I would expect to keep, for example, 30 hens in my yard. That is just absurd. So, if I was pushing for laws to be changed, giving a little and making them think they are getting a lot would work. "Oh no, we will keep it to x amount of hens blah blah blah" Everyone wins. If your laws are complaint based, even more reason to not irritate your neighbors. No roosters, no farm smell drifting over their BBQ etc. Talk to your neighbors, see how they feel. I worded it to mine like this: I am going to be getting a couple of hens for my backyard. The city doesn't forbid it. Is there any concerns you have that I could address for you? Give them an email in case they think of something to ask later and promise eggs in the future. All of my neighbors have been fine with that.

Friendship with the "powers that be" resulting in unequal enforcement of the writtten ordinance is a conflict of interest and could (and SHOULD) get all involved in a LOT of trouble. Deliberately turning a blind eye if very different than enforcement based upon complaint.

Giving ... a gift and bribing/ trying to pull friend strings with the powers to be are two different things

i'm kidding you two! you must have known this.

i'm hard at work trying to find a way to get this ordinance at least brought to the commissioners without the mayor blocking it. it appears the mayor has been behind or has been the one pushing the ordinance from the start. she wants our little town to be like a little Dallas.

I'm pretty sure Dallas allows chickens

BTW, Dallas is my hometown.

This may be very helpful Sonoran Silkies. if i can bring it up that the town (i hear she thinks amarillo should be modeling itself after) allows chickens and their are clubs &/or programs that i could borrow i'd be a lot further ahead. i'll be googling for that stuff. if you have links or phone numbers to chicken clubs there, please pass them on!

This is funny. i still hold a 'rival's grudge" against Dallas. I was a huge Oilers fan back in the days of Bum Phillips.

THANKS!!!!
