I would like to find a decent quality Jersey Giant, not necessarily show quality but I've heard that hatchery stock doesn't do the JG justice. I love all colors of JGs, it's the size and temperament that has me on the hunt for these beautiful birds! Also, a lot of places I have looked at have a pretty big minimum you have to order and I definitely don't need 15-20 giant chickens running around my yard! I could probably split an order with a neighbor, but 15 is still a lot. There aren't any breeders in my area, that I know of (I've been on the lookout for months.) Recently, a local feed store had JG and black Australorps, so I got a couple of each. They are totally sweet birds, we love them and plan on giving them a long and happy life, but at 10 weeks old, I cannot tell them apart. (There's not even the tell tale yellow on the bottoms of their feet so I'm not even sure I got any JGs) I am pretty new to chickens, but still slightly disappointed. Is My Pet Chicken a hatchery and do they have typical hatchery-stock JGs? What are your recommendations for finding a few of these? Where can I find them? Are my only options a large order of hatchery stock quality or a very expensive show quality breeder? Is it too hot right now to order? Are there a difference in the colors other than looks? Do you recommend trying to hatch eggs? (I've never hatched eggs before but would love to try!) Any other ideas and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! Also, if you have pictures of your own Giants, I would love to see them!
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
