Hi,
I recently added three Copper Maran hens and 1 rooster to our flock. One of the hens developed Wry Tail. Since this is hereditary should we cull all four birds? They are very likely all closely related. Any advice is appreciated.

I can’t see any reason to cull a hen with wry tail if you can tell her eggs from the others. If one has thr trait, that doesn’t mean the others will have it and pass it on. I had a rooster with wry tail that I rehomed once because he was to be my breeding rooster. But the hens can still lay eggs and lead a normal life. However, I wouldn’t breed her since it can be a hereditary trait. You might be able to rehome her easily, since people do love their dark brown eggs.

I do plan to cull the hen BUT since I also have the sisters and brothers of the same hen they will surely breed with each other. I have my concerns about keeping any of them. I will surely want to have chicks in the future.
