Hello!

I've been working on building my future coop... But I've been wondering about the size. One of the main breeds I want are Australorps, but I can't find a way to see how tall/wide they are, only how much they weigh. What's the recommended square foot for holding 6-10 of those size chickens? I'm not worried about run space, what's planned for that is very big. I would appreciate help on the inside of the coop though!

I think the standard size for the coop around here is 4 sq ft per bird and 10 sg ft per bird for the run. I would reccommend planning for a few extra birds, because if you are like most of us, you get more chickens. (I started with 4 last May and now have 14!) Be sure to post pics for us!

Welcome to BYC!

Make it bigger, you won't regret it! I think a good size for 6-10 would be an 8 by 8 coop. I have six hens and it is roomy. If they are stuck inside on a bad day, they won't start pecking at each other.
