I have been searching for an hour and cannot find anything about Egg Size Records.

My GLW (my smallest chicken) has been laying eggs that look like Duck Eggs.

Two weeks ago she laid a 105 gram egg, and yesterday she upped the ante -- 111 grams!

Where can I find out if she is anywhere near the record?

Any help would be appreciated. Just point me in the right direction!

Thanks,
Bob

I read in the book "Keeping Chickens" that the largest chicken egg ever recorded was laid by a Black Minorca in 1896. It weighed 12 oz (340g), had a circumference of 9 in. (23 cm), and contained 5 yolks!!!!

That must've hurt!

I have since done some more searching, and discovered Lacy has a long way to go before she can claim any records.

I did run across the 340g egg from 1896, but it did not list the chicken. Thanks for adding that HappyChick.

Other notable contributions: (from Guinness)

The current claim is from China (where else) -- 201g. This would replace the current record of 176g.

There was a 194g egg from England in 2009 (the chicken quit laying for 5 days and then laid this whopper), and a 143g egg from Canada.

I will talk to Lacy today, and advise her to give up on the record. I don't see how she even managed the 111g egg!

Wow, and I thought my leghorn that has been laying for about a month was laying a huge egg at 90 grams!
