Does anyone keep records on egg laying, size of egg etc.? And if you do... what methods work best? I'm kind of looking around for some sort of on-line chart or spreadsheet or by hand method where I could record number and color of eggs I gather each day, and then chart them up later. Might be a fun Girl Scout project to look at how many eggs we get over a year for instance. Thanks for any ideas

I simply have a calendar hanging in the coop that I write on every day.
I was looking for one with roos, I figured the girls would like it but had to settle for a plain one.

I also have a calender that I use but I've never done it on a regular basis.

The previous owners of our place had a neat spreadsheet (this was before computers). They collected morning, noon, p.m, and then 1 more time. Some or the daily totals are between 68 - 75 eggs. Then there are columns for birds removed, lbs mash, lbs pellets, lbs scratch. They didn't fill that in. I wish I could copy this to show everyone but I can't get my scanner installed on my computer. There is also a summary column in the one corner - avg # birds, avg daily eggs, % production (avg # eggs divided by avg # chickens), pounds of feed per dozen eggs (total feed used divided by total dozen eggs), and feed cost per doz eggs ( lbs feed per dozen eggs X feed cost per lb) These eggs were collected 3 - 4 times a day from the 3rd floor of a barn!

I'm making a calender with pics of my own chickens. There's all kinds of really inexpensive software out there ($10 usually) that shows you how to make your own calenders out of your own photos.

The hard part is deciding which chicken to use for what month for me. LOL

I'm a pencil-and-paper sort of person, myself. I have a dayplanner/engagement book which has a month-at-a-glance page. This is where I keep a tally of how many eggs from which coop, and how often I open a new feed bag for which coop. Just to see if they're keeping up with the rent.

This is exactly what I was getting ready to mention! I'll see if I can find the thread for you.
