Has anyone ever had a chicken lay an egg that weighs 3.9 oz or 111 grams? My Black Australorp normally lays jumbo eggs but today, I got a good chuckle when I looked in the nesting box. I have a few dual purpose breeds that lay mainly medium or large eggs. Here’s a side by side of my Speckled Sussex’s medium egg and the colossal Black Australorp egg.

THAT THING IS HUGE!
ouch.
I wonder how many yolks it has?
She’s never layed a double yolker so far but I’m curious to find out Out of all my hens, she’s layed the latest at 8 1/2 months but she’s been laying jumbo eggs from the very beginning. Worth the wait!

I had a cuckoo maran that did that. Laid only once in a while, but when she did they were double yolkers!

That is a big egg!
We have some BC Maran pullets and they lay our largest eggs. Never a double yolk, but so fat that they often get stuck in the foam egg cartons, and it takes effort to close the carton lid. I should weigh some to see how many grams they weigh!

Bet that's a shelled egg inside a shelled egg.

Yeah, it’s fun to weigh them just to see where they fall in the size range.
