I am new to raising chickens.
About 2 weeks ago our dog got to our flock and killed all but 3 of the young chickens (2 months old). I had 2 buff Orpington and 1 Rhode Island Red survive. The Rhode Island Red was significantly injured so I separated her in a dog crate to allow her to heal.
She seems mostly recovered, however she still walks with a somewhat significant limp.
About a week ago I moved the chickens into the coop, keeping the injured Rhode Island Red still contained in the crate within the coop (trying to keep her acclimated with the other 2).
How long should I keep the Rhode Island Red within the crate to have the best chance of her being welcomed back by the others and preventing further injury due to her impaired mobility?
Thanks!
