Hi everyone, I have a snake that is hanging around and it just won’t go. NOTE- killing is not an option as it is poisonous and protected But what else can we do? We have locked fine wire down and yet it appears to have got under that.... It does not appear to be too worried about my chicks as it has not attacked them or even tried, what can I do? Ideas?
Whenever we have a snake we move it with a shovel or rake... that way it is not killed and does not bite us!
Yeah, we usually use a hose and the cold hits them and they go but this one tried to attack one of my hens last time.
I would be so uncomfortable with that around! Could you call wildlife removal or snake catchers to relocate it?
for anyone who's curious about the snake info. I'm guessing this is the snake: https://snake-facts.weebly.com/red-bellied-black-snake.html I'd get your parents to call a snake catcher. Having it hang round your coop isn't really all that safe. If it feels you're threatening it it might attack. Like if it's decided the eggs belong to it and it doesn't like you taking it's food source. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-23/what-not-to-do-if-you-find-a-snake-in-your-house/9473632 "Mr Jackson recommended getting in contact with a local and licenced snake catcher and ask them to identify the snake by a picture, remembering to keep your distance. But also you're able to find out if it is venomous and if you do want to get a professional catcher out to get it and relocate it. That way you're not going to put yourself at risk."
Is this one more aggressive? Maybe it's worth having it removed if, as you say, the others can be persuaded to leave by means of a cold shower.
