Hi, All.

I've decided to try Red & Black star chickens for laying. I've ordered 3 of each to decide if we like one over another.

Does anyone on here have experience with their temperaments?

We've always gotten birds that are sweet tempered and they needed to be easy to handle because our kids show them at 4H.
I'm really hoping these will be nice!

The best rooster I ever had was a black star named Happy. I could lay him up on a basketball rim and he would stand there and start crowing! He had some serious personality, was never mean, and was gorgeous. The hens were great too. A lot of people will tell you that they are bully’s, but you just need to handle them early.

Thank you, everyone, for responding with your positive comments.

We always handle our baby chicks, constantly(how can you help it!). ;)
I wanted to be sure I clarified that the Back & Red Stars are Murry McMurry's hybrid chickens. That was the name they chose for their hybrids.

Their website states they are "egg laying machines." Since we only have a few birds, we need to make sure they really lay well.
