Red Butt

Hi . One of my hens has a red butt with no feathers. It looks like a red ball. Does anyone know what the problem would be? I have 20 but only one has this.

It might be a prolapsed vent, but pictures would be helpful. Google prolapsed vent,, or do a search at the top of this page. For a prolapse, you would want to check inside the vent for a possible stuck egg. Apply honey, or some Preparation H cream to help reduce swelling. Lubricate the vent area, and push the red tissue back inside, while holding there for a few minutes. Place your hen in a dark room or covered crate for 16 hours every night to stop laying eggs temporarily. Keep the vent area clean and use shallow baths daily if necessary.
