Hello all,

I am new to BYC and excited to learn from everyone!

I tend chickens at our neighborhood Grange. Our rooster has a bright red butt and the tops of his legs where the feathers start are also scarlet red. I will attach a photo. Someone suggested mites but we dusted with D-Earth twice and it did not help. He doesn't seem to be in pain or irritated by it but it looks horrible. Help!

Welcome to BYC

Can you post a photo of the legs as well?
What do the bottom of his feet look like?
How old is he?

As suggested by @mmmeyer poultry dust will be more effective it if it lice/mites than DE.

Without a photos of the legs/feet, I suspect the red you are seeing is hormones. Roosters legs can turn red, indicating sexual maturity.

The bum, I'm not sure. My rooster's bum turns red from time to time almost in correlation with his legs turning red, but I have not read any relationship between hormones and a red bum- so this is just a theory.
