Hello, everyone!
So I recently was given a bantam roo, and I'm pretty sure he's a Red Cochin Bantam.
I am taking him to a poultry show in a few weeks, and I want to know as much as I possibly can about him. If anyone has anything you would like to post about this breed, (background info, common diseases, advise etc) please feel free to! I am open to learning, and I wish to study as much as I can about this breed.

Just a side note, I have many poultry books and own a copy of the APA Standard of Perfection.

Sorry, I don't show (yet), so I don't know much. But first you should post a picture of him, because you aren't completely sure if he is, are you?

I have Cochin Bantams. I love the breed. When I give them baths before the fair they are so calm about it. They dont seem to eat as much food either. I buy a bag every 1-2 months for 4 chickens. They are cuddly and SO fluffy. In terms of showing it can be hard to get poop of the foot feathers during the bath. Here is mine.

Thanks for the info! When do you bathe them, the day of the show or before?

For me, the day before I bring them to the fair I clean their coop well. And for me I move it because it is a tractor. After that I bathe them. If you want to know the specifics of bathing I can tell you. The next day I bring them to the fair. I bring 2 toothbrushes and some dawn. The morning that they are judged I take one of the toothbrushes and I wash the face. I take the other toothbrush and wash the feet. All it takes is some water with dawn in it. Them I put baby oil or vaseline on the comb and wattles. It make them shine. Make sure that the nails are clean from poop and mud. For clean legged birds it is the same, but put baby oil or vaseline on the legs.
