My hen Scooter has been acting lethargic/low-energy the last few days. About a month and half ago she had a bad case of flystrike on her butt (not in the vent but near it), but we managed to completely remove all maggots and her wound has completely healed since then. She’s always been the smallest in the flock and the bottom of the pecking order but she’s lost a lot of weight since that incident. To the point where she is significantly lighter and I can feel her bones when I carry her.
However, she has seemed in good spirits and normal again up until a few days ago. She was acting lethargic, not moving as much as usual and her comb was droopier and paler than usual. We thought she was egg bound because my brother checked her vent and felt a round, hard object. We soaked her in a warm epsom salt bath and tried to see if she could push it out. But upon further inspection, it’s not an egg at all. It’s a red, round and hard object. It’s about the size of a walnut and located inside the upper left part of her vent (it’s attached to her skin). The pictures are not pretty (don’t continue on if you don’t want to see a picture of a chicken’s vent), and they were difficult to get because the issue is internal but this is the best I can do:
Outside of the vent/her butt (she’s wet from the epsom salt bath)
Part of the red, hard object attached to the upper left part of her vent.
Green/white discharge
Does anyone know what this can possibly be? We’re scared she’s just going to get sicker so please, any insight is appreciated!!!
