Red hen or roo..

If it were a hen, it would not have saddle feathers as shown in photo 3. This is clearly a cockerel.

what age do they start to crow? We have not heard anything from this one.

If you have other roosters in your flock, sometimes they won't crow at all.

X2. I went back to look at that 3rd picture, I actually don't see any saddle feathers, looks like normal hen feathering to me. My RIR roo's are always very obvious by the time they are around 4 weeks old, by the time they are 12 to 15 weeks there's no doubt. That is a hen.

Red is our oldest chicken we have. Other roo's would be 4-5 weeks old .. To the person who said red seemed friendly. Red is indeed one of our most loved birds. Red LOVES mckenna and MCkenna loves her as well.
