Red Laced Blue?

I'd love to make some that are Turkens and also Orpingtons. First though I have to figure her out

Why do turkens freak me out.

Can't really help you on the genetics but I am thinking that by the time she is a year old her color will have changed some. Chicks look so pretty at a young age but can change drastically. If she continues to look like this I would think trying a blue might help or a recessive white from other whites. This may not give you copies of her but at least help you to know how to continue the pattern and color. However, my genetics in chickens is much more limited than other species.

is she red-laced blue, or blue-laced red? Wouldn't that make a difference when you crossed her? I am still learning so...curiosity and all that.

She's a red laced blue. I know I won't be breeding her to BLR as that would defeat the purpose of trying to get more of her.

Her pattern looks just like what my Blue Wheaton Cubalaya pullets looked like as youngsters. By the time they were a year old they molted out all the oddly laced feathers and now only have red laced feather in the tail and neck and look wheaton otherwise.

she is so NEAT you must update us when she get older! If she keeps the red laced blue pattern then I would agree with Nadine!! I dont know much it just seems to be the most logic thing because she is a blue and if she keeps the red lace then her little ones not all of them but some should have the same pattern as the mom. You might can try the chicken caculator! Good Luck

I do not think you will be able to replicate the pattern. As Fancy Fowl stated, she will most likely molt the feathers and become a different color.

I have birds two hens that show some strange lacing patterns but they are only found in patches on the birds. They are from a rhode island red crossed with a broiler hybrid. I am thinking (just a thought nothing research based) the lacing has something to do with the blue gene interacting with a columbian like restrictor because only the birds that carry blue have the lacing. If I remember, I will post pics later.
