Red Legs on my Rooster

I noticed the redness about a week ago on my roosters legs. He solely free ranges, but I have also noticed it in a couple that are in a coop. Dosen't seem to bother them, but wanted to make sure it wasn't some sort of mites.

Most likely its hormones. Mites make them look scratchy and dry and eventually raise the scales in the front.
