Someone suggested to me that a string of red Christmas lights around the coop may deter predators.
I know they make a box with a few red lights that predators think are eyes.
Does anyone have an opinion on either of these options?

Motion detecting lights scare off an animal that's passing through. After a few times the animals get wise that it's nothing but a light. There are predators in your area, they don't just pass through very often rather live in that area. If you want to train them to something train them to know what electric fencing is. A bite from that will train them to stay clear from your pen area. So much so that even if the power fails or your fence is grounding out for a period of time the animals will be trained to stay clear of it.
