red line up/down the leg and feet

awesome-thanks. So far my issues with the chicks have been minor and have turned out to be nothing.
Nice when it turns out that way!!!

Thanks again

My chickens never had any red lines like those...until.

Until I took in some free birds that looked healthy but also had those red lines on their legs. I'd never seen those before in all the years I've been around chickens and raising my own. They appeared healthy but my chickens got leg mites from them. I had never had any mites in any of my flocks ever before that.

After I got it cleared up in my own flock I noticed the roo and a few of my girls had the same red lines on their legs.

I don't know if it's true but I read on here somewhere that the red line on the roo is a sign of an increase in male hormones. Maybe females do the same it is just usually lighter?

I know this is an old thread but it surely helped me! One of my two 11 month old roos just developed this red stripe. Since I had two hens with bumblefoot recently, I was very concerned that this was yet some new kind of infection! Glad to know it is probably just my boy growing up.

My BOs have this too. I believe its normal for all genders, just a variant that makes the bird non-show-quality. Otherwise, Im sure a show quality bird would have completely white feet.

I have a 2 year old rooster that I traded for (all my other birds are much younger) and he just started walking funny. I was worried he had Marek's disease. I had noticed the red stripe (figured it was a vein) but wondered if he got scraped by attacking the wire in between him and another rooster or if it was leg mites. When I caught him and flipped him over the stripes sure got more red as he kicked. His legs looked fine but I still wonder if he has leg mites or bumble foot coming on.
