Red lines on my chickens legs

Hi- Just noticed this morning that my 12 week bantams cockerels have red lines on the outside of both legs. Some say hormones and some say scaly leg mites. How can I know for sure and can I treat for mites without hurting the birds. Thank you!

I’ve seen this on my cockerels (the pic is one of mine that has always had it). I agree, it’s normal and not scary leg mites. scaly leg mites will actually raise the scales on front of the shank — look up pictures on google and you’ll see your cockerel doesn’t have it.
