I have a red mite infestation. It is the worst I’ve seen. I clean my coop out regularly and have been very happy with the lack of red mites recently and then BAM! They are everywhere... in the coop, on my chickens, even crawling around on the grass inside their enclosure!!
I’m not sure what to do next, so any advice would be appreciated.

Here's what I recommend. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042L8S7A/?tag=backy-20

Warning - it is very pricey, but actually is economical since it's highly concentrated. This stuff is absolutely safe for chickens and pets, but it thoroughly kill mites and lice and other problem insects such as darkling beetles. It has a biological residual that lasts quite a while when sprayed inside a coop or covered run where sunlight is minimal.

It's easy to mix and use in a quart spray bottle or in a garden sprayer. I have used it on my chickens for lice and leg mites, and it works fast and the parasites do not come back. After cleaning a coop, if you spray this stuff on all surfaces and into cracks, you will not have this problem be an ongoing one.

@Marisa14 where is your location? That may help with what products are available. I use Permethrin 10 concentrate mixed with water in a spray bottle or garden sprayer depending on if I am treating the birds or the coop. It is mixed 37 ml per gallon of water. Ivermectin pour-on or injectable can also be used on the back of the neck midline once and 14 days later.

I am in New Zealand. I was going to ring my vet in the morning to also see what they recommend

Great! Thanks so much. I will most definitely have a look at that!

Ivermectin 100 saline based, about 1/2cc +/- depending on size injected once a week I'm for 3 weeks, generously apply sevin powder to the coop and around their vent area.

They will appear to be gone by end of first week but 3 weeks breaks the life cycle.
