Red mites and young chicks

Hi I have a hen with one fertilised egg which has a week to go before it hatches, in addition in the last week I have found red mites within the coop and on the mother, what is an effective plus SAFE treatment to get rid of the little pests and not harm the egg/chick?

Permethrin spray or dust should be fine, just don't use too much! Those mites aren't good for momma or the chicks. Mary

Hi thanks for the advice, the only one I can see in my local store is designed for ornamental birds and also contains piperonyl butoxide and methoprene? Would these be safe or sprays to avoid?

Avoid those, and find a product labeled for poultry. My local farm stores all have permethrin spray concentrate, and 'Poultry dust' which is permethrin powder. Mary
