Red mites question!

I have a new chicken! She’s now in quarantine after I realized that she has what I assume to be red mites. I treated her with permethrin yesterday and I don’t see anyyything on her anymore (checked vent, neck, under wings, and her crest as much as possible) I know you’re supposed to treat again in 7 days, but what should I be looking for as far as the nits/mite eggs go?

Would it be a bad idea to integrate her with my other two before I do the second treatment? I feel bad she’s by herself.

I would quarantine and treat her for a few more days, then slowly introduce her. Better to be safe and have the mites cleared up than sorry if she gives them to the flock. To help with the loneliness, chicken toys, treats, and dirt baths might help distract her.

It's usually recommended to do at least 3 treatments at weekly intervals. It's also important to remove all bedding and nesting material and discard/destroy that as well, and treat where ever she's kept at the same time. Mites will hide in bedding and in nooks and crannies. Personally, rather than have to treat my entire flock and coop, I wouldn't add her to the flock until I'd done a complete round of treatments and was darn sure I'd gotten them all. So 3 weeks. If she was already in with the other birds before you discovered it, then there may already be mites there, so you may end up needing to treat that area as well.

She was with them for a night before I realized. The other two are still in a pop-up tent in my house, not in the coop yet. I’ve checked them very thoroughly every day since and haven’t seen anything. My little infested girl is in a large storage tote on my porch now. I double bagged all her bedding and went ahead and sprayed down the storage tote before putting new bedding in.

I also bought 9 ml of elector PSP, but it doesn’t come in until Friday.

When you get the elector, I would use that to spray your coop where she spent the one night, just to make sure. That should get them in one treatment if any are there. Clean out the bedding and nesting material and discard also. Hopefully that will do it.
