red /no feathers on bottom

I'm not sure I understood your post correctly. If I did, you're saying your hen has plucked out her breast /belly feathers? I'm new to this but I do know that when my broody hens are setting on a clutch, they do this to help keep the eggs warm. In other words,to incubate the eggs. As this is how the embryos mature. As far as the redness,my hens skin is pink. Maybe they plucked too hard. Irritated themselves. I'm sorry,I really would like to help! If I misunderstood,I apologize! And I hope you do find an answer to your issue.

glad you have joined us.

@NorthFLChick has already given you the best advice to post pic and details under emergencies and you should get more opinions.

I see you have posted some info on an old thread, but IMO you should start your own there to get more attention.

Red bottoms with loss of feathers suggests feather picking, mites or lice. If only a couple of your flock of 20 have this, and you have ruled out pests, then IMO feather picking is the likely cause. Are they the lower in the pecking order? Are they healthy without any signs of other problems? If you have ruled out all but picking possibilities, there are a number of threads on what folks have tried to stop it. I had picking issues and expanding the coop/run and providing entertainment solved my problem.

Do you have time at some point, to sit and observe them (hopefully unnoticed) to see what is going on? Is she being feather plucked? Or is she damaging her own feathers? Please post again to let us know if you see anything worth noting.
