Red or blood spots in eggs

Quote:
This does work quite well. If you go to the main page and search "boiling fresh eggs" you will find an entire thread somewhere, I think under "managing your flock." I found many techniques there that worked for me. I haven't tried steaming yet, but there is a detailed description on that same thread. As for the blood spots, I feed those eggs to my husband. He never knows the difference.

As far as peeling eggs, after boiling the eggs I put them right into ice water, and I even change the water a few times, and then peel immediately...they peel great!

GREAT news! You all are correct- don't you just love hearing that!?

I boiled my eggs in salt (maybe a tablespoon) & also poked a tiny hole in them to let gasses out. After it came to a boil, I covered them, turned off the heat & let set for 12 or so mins. I cooled them immediately & they peeled MUCH better. Some I didn't peel for a couple of days & they also peeled real nice.

Not sure if it's the salt or poking the eggs or the immediate cold rinse that did the trick but, together, it worked great.

Thanks!
Amy
