I got some red ranger chicks from Tractor Supply. I really don't know much about them. Are they good for laying eggs? Can you tell the gender of them from the color they are? Anything about them would be appreciated. Thanks.

Red Rangers are meat birds (broilers). They were bred as a slower growing, meat producing alternative to Cornish cross. Unlike Cornish cross which are ready for butchering at 7-8 weeks and which suffer from serious health problems due to their abnormal growth rates, Red Rangers are much healthier birds, are good foragers, and are ready for butchering at around 80 days. Red Rangers will lay eggs, but being bred for meat are not productive layers.
