First time raising red rangers for meat and they are about 6-7 weeks old now. Bought 12 of them at tsc for $1 at 3 weeks old. We had to put one down due to leg issues and him not being able to walk. First, since his legs were spread out, we tried tying his legs closer and that worked well but a few days after we untied his legs and he was as good as new... one leg turned black and he went back to not being able to walk and faded quickly. Then another developed the same leg issue and after a few weeks of not growing and not being able to walk at all... decided it best to stop his suffering. That same day we found one dead for no apparent reason and he was one of the energetic ones. Blaming sudden death on his lose at this point. Down to 9 of the 12 and all of these ones love running around the yard daily. They welcome our earlier morning visits and are starting to run to me when I bring feed/water. They grow like weeds and love free ranging. Heavy snow is in near future but they have done well in a few snow storms thus far. Next step is a new deep freezer as don't imagine 9 birds will fit in what we have. Good luck to everyone else and we'd love to hear others experiences with these birds
