I have a small variety of hens and roosters. Most are still chicks. I want to mate them when they are older. However, I don’t really understand the whole sex link thing. I have a red sex link hen and she is a great layer. I’d love to have more of them and sell them as well. I don’t know what rooster to mate her with though.

Oh cool, what cross would you do with them to make sex links?
Crossed with a Fibromelanotic rooster(Cemani, Silkie) the cross will be sex linked, in this case the sexed linked gene will be id+ vs Id, id+(sex linked dermal enhancer/slate shanks) vs Id(clear yellow/white shanks) boosted by Fibromelanosis(Fm) will yield Black Skin/shank pullets and Clear shanked/Clear/White/Yellow skin cockerels

Very interesting, does this work when crossing any fibro rooster with any non-fibro hen?

Not just any non-fibro hen, but hens that clearly have yellow/white shanks! as that indicates the presence of sex linked dermal inhibitor Id.

basically any recessive sex linked gene that can be expressed at hatch can be used on these red sex linked hens.

For example the above mentioned Fibromelanotic roosters(due to id+ boosting Fm and Id inhibiting its expression), sex linked recessive chocolate(would result on chocolate pullets and black cockerels with gold/silver leakage), sex linked imperfect albinism(S^al, would result in imperfect/incomplete albino pullets and non-albino cockerels)
