Red shanks/ does NOT seem normal

I have some bantam cochin roosters who have redness in the quill feathers that are in their feet and ankles. And then the shanks are very red where the featheres come out going all the way up the shanks. I am concerned about this. I have searched everywhere and cant find a clue as to what is wrong. Thanks

I just read ....somewhere....

that this is due to his hormones.

My whote-legged roos have lots of red when they get their hormones in.

I don't have any feathered leg breeds, but all my roos started to get red lines up their legs when they reached breeding age.

I will go home and check again to see if any of the pullets have it. This will set my mind at eases.

Red skin is normal on roos, but look them over and make sure it's not a shaft infection (more common on feather legged birds). I would think if the feather shaft is infected, it would look quite yucky and inflamed. If it is just the skin, I agree no worries..that is normal.
