Red star chicks & black australorp chicks

thanks I do too. every time one of them would do it I was without my camera. Not a good shot but at least I did catch one. ha

Yes, Kelli, she goes broody on me all the time. She has hatched the guinea eggs, some of her own and some of the red star's eggs. I only have one so I don't know if that is there nature or just hers. speckled hen would know more than I since I only one and she has a bunch.

Thanks. I was hoping to get a breed that does go broody as I'd like to hatch some guinea and other chicks as well.
Thank goodness DH doesn't read this.

I missed your post the first time around. They are so cute!!!

I've not raised any babies with a mama yet, so I LOVE seeing those pics and hearing about how the hens act. They are so cute standing on her back, and I'm so glad to hear that she's protecting them (even from you, LOL).

I hope I get to do that someday. I'm also glad to hear you have a broody Australorp. I know you said you only have the one, but I hope one of mine turns out to be also.

Conrats again. They are SOOOOOOOOO cute!

Ok, mama wanted out of the cage so I trust her and turned her loose. this is the new chick's second day outside with the flock. Goes to show...let them show you what to do and when. The flock accepts them outside. I leave the cage open and last night she took them back inside the cage so she knows best.

Oh, Carrie, those babies are beautiful!! I have an Australorp mamma who is raising babies right now, too. She has been an excellent mother and I just love watching her teach her little ones about chicken life!!
