I love mine. I only have two of them, but they started laying early and skipped the whole pullet egg thing. Their eggs have been large and dark brown from the beginning. I call them the trippy sisters because they're always underfoot whenever I'm working around the barn or upper field.
We have one gold comet thatis not old enough to lay yet. But we do have 5 black star that started laying around the second week of august and laid 101 eggs by the end of august. We have friends with RSs and they have the same results we have with the BSs. What is the difference between red stars , production reds , golden comets, & cinnamon queens anyway? Just wondering? P/S 14 weeks that is really early congrats.

A Red Star is also known as a Cinnamon Queen. We've had a couple of them in the past and my husband swears by them as the best layer of them all. Cinnamon Queens produce big brown eggs, and will start to lay eggs at a younger age than most other breeds. Another advantage Cinnamon Queens have is that, as chicks, the cockerels are white and the hens (pullets) are a brownish-red.
My mixed "eating egg" flock is getting up there and I've been considering replacing my fru fru girls with something more hearty and egg producing like the CQ when their time comes. I'm just one who appreciates a sweet hen no matter how many eggs she lays...that's why my egg flock is mostly Buff Orps. I've heard that the red star or cinnamon queen if you will are very docile girls.
Congrats on the early eggs! I'm still waiting on my 4 month old BCM pullets to get with the program!
