My 20 month old silver laced wyandotte, bottom of pecking order in flock of 4, has had a poopy butt for quite some time. Laying normally - 4 or 5 a week - and eating/drinking okay. She gets picked on a lot but that is normal too. Laid normal egg today also.

Today afternoon I decided to wash down her butt. She seemed to like it. That's when I noticed a big red swollen tumor like thing in the area below the vent. She seems to be bald in that area as well, unlike the others. I did not touch it so I do not know if it is soft or hard. When I tried putting her back in the coop, the others tried to peck her butt so I have isolated her. She is acting normal, preening, eating etc. Is this something I should be worried about? What should I do? Thanks for any help.

    Picture is included.

I wonder if she is egg bound. You might try a warm soak then rest in a darkened area. You can also lube up and feel inside for an egg.
