Red tail hawks are toying with me and terrorizing my flock!

i have had 11 of my chickens killed by hawks in the last 6 months. we have 8 or so red tails living around our place that will happily dine on chicken... i would absolutely LOVE to shoot them all. my poor hens are nervous wrecks.

I really hope your giving pain meds.

The meds I spray on her cleans it out, keeps it moist, and seems to be helping her out. She presently seems happy when I spend visiting hours with her.

Chickens do not show pain. 1/2 a baby aspirin 2 times a day would likely help take the edge off.

Out here everyone knows it is illegal, but they also would shoot the raptor and leave it out for the vulchers. Nothing left - not even bones. I had my hen mauled, and I wouldn’t let my better half shoot the hawk. Up close it was a beautiful bird.

I have used that dosage before with no ill effects that I could see. I would not give for more than one week.

While it isn't legal, I've heard that bottle rockets aimed at the roosting hawks help.

I did not know this and have done it on numerous occasions to ward off not only hawks, but stray dogs running our horses. Oops! I mean just dogs, I just shoot em at dogs.

Subscribing to see the results of your depradation application. I was involved in a pigeon organization where no one was ever awarded such a permit. Some folks took things into their own hands, and the result was not pretty. Do a Google search on 'Operation High Roller'.

This is probably the unpopular opinion here, but...

If you love your animals so much, why not build them predator-proof enclosures and don't let them out? It is so incredibly frustrating to me to hear/read about people wanting to kill predators for taking livestock that is essentially thrown out to them. The Earth is not yours and yours alone - One should try to find a way to cohabitate with the creatures who share our land. I wish more people had compassion and respect.
